School pupils compete in the Federal Competition for Artificial Intelligence

Showcasing the AI innovators of the future

On Friday, November 14, 2025, students from across Germany will present their project ideas at the Federal Competition for Artificial Intelligence (BWKI). Ten teams will compete to win one of the coveted prizes in the finale held at the Museum of Communication in Frankfurt am Main.

This is the seventh iteration of the competition, in which students are invited to develop AI projects that positively contribute to society. Pupils can compete either individually or in teams of up to four.

An interdisciplinary jury comprising scientists, practitioners, and representatives from society will review the projects and award the main prize of 1,500 euros plus an internship at a high-tech company. Additional prizes include:

‘AI for Good’, which will grant 1,000 euros to the most sustainable AI project.
‘No risk, no fun!’ for the most innovative idea or extraordinary hardware solution.
Audience prize: members of the public can also vote for their favorite team on the BWKI website. The audience favorite will win 500 euros.

The Federal Competition for Artificial Intelligence was launched in 2018 by the Tübingen AI Center and has since encouraged young people to showcase their skills in AI research.

The competition’s patron is the Minister-President of Baden-Württemberg, Winfried Kretschmann. Since 2020, its main sponsor has been the Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung. Cyber Valley is supporting the competition.
